Anthony Kurtz Photography - It All Came so Close to Never Happening

Seascapes

by Jamie McHugh

A series of natural abstract photographs of the Sonoma Coast's tidal zone

Photographer Jamie McHugh exhibited Seascapes - a series of natural abstract photographs of the Sonoma Coast’s tidal zone - at Dickerman Prints Gallery from July - September, 2010

McHugh’s tight crops and unusual points of view of the spectacular Sonoma Coast tidal zone produce remarkable abstractions. Photographing in the sun’s final hour also brings an otherworldly quality to the naturally rich textures, colors and forms of the environment.

The wonderfully lyrical nature of McHugh’s photographic work is related to his other passions. An instructor in dance and movement, as well as photography, for more than 30 years, McHugh strives to “capture life happening during the pause between exhale and inhale,” as he says. His award-winning photos have been exhibited throughout California to critical acclaim.

Jamie McHugh also is an accomplished dancer, author and developer of Somatic Expression: an innovative approach to somatic movement education for incorporating bodily intelligence into daily life. He teaches seminars and trainings internationally and is adjunct faculty at John F Kennedy University and at Tamalpa Institute in the Bay Area.
